“Still Waters Run Deep” is a large-scale projection mapping artwork that transforms the historic façade of Lancaster Castle’s John O’Gaunt Gate, to tell the story of glacial change. Using rhythmic drawn animation, the piece reveals the hidden importance and internal movement of glaciers, challenging our perception of what is still.
The artwork shifts through distinct states: from a seemingly static, subtle depiction of ice to an accelerated animation of melting and movement through subglacial lakes. Through its rhythmic flow, the piece connects us to the impermanence of these vast structures, highlighting how their movements globally impact us all. Hand-drawn illustration by Faith To and a rich soundscape by Amber Hooton enhance this powerful and emotionally resonant work, which condenses centuries of geological time into a dynamic experience.
