Be Part of a Unique Light Art Project Exploring Deepfakes and AI
Award-winning light artist Phil is looking for 60 volunteer participants to take part in a one-off filming session on Wednesday 29 July for an exciting new artwork inspired by cutting-edge research into deepfakes, AI-generated faces and digital identity. The artwork will form part of a larger public installation exploring how technology is changing our relationship with truth, trust and reality.
No acting experience is needed – we’re simply looking for a diverse mix of people aged 18+ who are happy to be filmed. Your image and voice may be transformed and incorporated into a striking artwork that invites audiences to question what they see and hear in an age of increasingly realistic AI-generated content. The project is inspired by research into deepfakes and how they are blurring the boundaries between human and machine, reality and fiction.

Who can take part? Anyone aged 18+
Experience required? None at all
This is your chance to contribute to a fascinating fusion of art, technology and cybersecurity research.

The finished artwork explores the research led by Lancaster University by the FACTOR group and the NIGHTINGALE LAB. This artwork has been supported by the PBIAA CyberFocus project, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) [Grant No. EP/Z536052/1]
VOLUNTEERS
Light Up Lancaster is looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to take to the streets of Lancaster to support Light Up Lancaster 2026. Volunteers will be on hand to distribute maps and brochures to festival attendees and provide a warm welcome, good knowledge of the city would be very helpful. This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved with an exciting event, and to gain experience of working on a cultural festival.
All volunteers must be over the Age of 18.
Key Responsibilities for a volunteer
- Guiding, informing, and greeting; engaging with the audience to create excellent rapport.
- Being aware of and informing audience members about the events taking place on that evening, ensuring people have the best possible experience of the event.
- Collecting donations for future LUL events
- Reporting any hazards or potential problems to Volunteer Manager/ Security Team
- To follow closely the protocol given at training about how to respond to an emergency or difficult situation.
Please note you must be available for at least one full session across the weekend to volunteer.
