Keep A Light On
This winter, all of us can have fun
helping to keep the spirit of Light Up Lancaster alive!
There are several ways in which you can join in with
Keep A Light On (KALO)…
Encounter new magical artworks in the city centre
From mid-November onwards, local artists will be creating three new artworks in empty shop windows for you to discover.
Look out for the stunning installations created by Jenny McCabe, BCL Lighting, and Taylor Woodcock & Hannah Corcoran in locations around the city centre.
Please only visit with your household or ‘bubble’ and please remember to adhere to social distancing when in town – there’s no need to rush because the installations will stay in place until early January!
Make your own shop window display – digitally!
We are inviting everyone to create their own unique, digital shop window display. Simply download the ‘frame’ of a city centre shop window to make your own masterpiece, then send us your pictures.
If you’re happy and confident playing around at digital drawing and design then this will be the perfect opportunity for you to showcase your creative talent to everyone in the district. It’s a blank canvas so ready, steady, draw!
Equally, if you simply want to download the ‘frame’ below, draw and colour your shop window design by hand that’s fine too. Just take a photo of your finished piece and mail it to us at: email@example.com any time throughout November and December. Please let us know whether it’s ok to include your name (first name and last name, or just first name) on our website, and if you have a short paragraph about how / why you created your design please do include it (you don’t have to!).
Whichever option you and your friends and family choose, remember to try and make your design highlight the magic of Light Up Lancaster and reflect the spirit of hope, togetherness and happiness that will shine throughout the dark winter months of November and December.
And if you’re looking for some inspiration just click on the gallery of images from all the wonderful Light Up Lancaster festivals from the past.
Make your own home a special Light Up Lancaster window on the world
Why not transform your own front windows throughout the months of November and December into enchanting ‘Keep A Light On’ displays! Get creative and have fun with your family making twinkling installations and displays that will spread the message that, despite 2020 being a tough year for so many people, warmth, joy and light still shine in our hearts.
Encourage friends and neighbours to Keep A Light On in their windows as well so that your street and local community will show everyone there is hope shining a light to the end of the tunnel.
If you feel at ease making Christmas displays all you need to do is approach your Keep A Light On window installation with the same confidence. If you are looking for some creative inspiration, Joanna Cameron from Creation Station has come up with some brilliant ideas for lanterns, displays and more! Just click here to find out more.
Stay safe: Please ensure you use flame retardant materials for your window displays and use LED lights rather than candles.
Make your own bit of Light Up Lancaster magic that will reflect a spirit of hope, togetherness and happiness.
And don’t forget to send us your window images and we will feature as many as we can on the Light Up Lancaster website. Please let us know whether it’s ok to include your name (first name and last name, or just first name) on our website, and if you have a short paragraph about how / why you created your design please do include it (you don’t have to!).
