The Storage Ring: Illuminating Science

Did you know the UK is home to a huge particle accelerator?
Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron, a type of particle accelerator. Working like a giant microscope, Diamond harnesses the power of particles called electrons to produce bright light that scientists can use to study anything from fossils to jet engines, viruses to vaccines. The Storage Ring uses animated lights, projections and sound to tell the story of Diamond and investigate its influence on our lives.
As you accelerate through the piece, a laboratory comes to life, bringing images of the past and visions of what lies ahead into focus. The Storage Ring takes you on a journey that shines a light on Diamond’s history, the breakthroughs that happen there and its aspirations for the future.
